How to Improve a UST Projector in a Bright Room
A bright-room UST setup is a system problem. The screen matters, but so do window direction, lamp placement, image size and where people sit.

Control the worst light first
Identify which light source strikes the screen most directly. Side windows can be especially challenging because many lenticular UST screens are strongest against light from above. Curtains, blinds or simply changing the viewing time can deliver a bigger contrast improvement than chasing small specification differences.
Use the right optical screen
Choose a screen built for UST geometry. If side light is the main problem, Fresnel can be attractive. If overhead light and wide seating are the bigger issues, lenticular is often easier to accommodate.
Keep unnecessary light away from the projector angle
Light arriving from a similar direction as the projector is hard for an ALR surface to distinguish from projector light. Avoid placing bright lamps near the projector or directly beneath the screen.
Consider image size
A larger image spreads the projector's light over more area. If the room is extremely bright, a 100-inch image can look punchier than 120 inches with the same projector.
Build around the real seating position
Do not optimize a Fresnel screen for a centered demo seat if everyday viewers sit far to the sides. Bright-room contrast and viewing angle should be balanced around the people actually using the room.
Frequently asked questions
Can an ALR screen make a projector look like a TV in full sun?
No screen can completely defeat direct sunlight. ALR helps manage ambient light, but room control still matters.
Should I choose a smaller screen for daytime use?
A smaller image can improve luminance with the same projector, so it is worth considering.
Does Fresnel help with side windows?
That is one of the main reasons Fresnel UST screens are considered: their optical structure can reject side light more aggressively than typical lenticular surfaces.
