Projector Screen Viewing Angle: Plan the Seats Before You Buy
Viewing angle is one of the most overlooked UST screen specifications. It determines how far viewers can move off-center before the picture changes significantly.

What the number is trying to describe
Manufacturers use viewing-angle specifications to describe an acceptable horizontal viewing range, but methods can differ. A wide published number does not necessarily mean every seat within that range has identical brightness.
How to measure your seating spread
Measure from the center of the screen to your farthest regular seat. If that seat is far to the side, prioritize a wide-viewing surface. If nearly everyone sits within a centered sofa zone, a more directional Fresnel screen can still be a good match.
A specification inconsistency worth knowing
NothingProjector's current regional Fresnel listings have shown different viewing-angle figures, including 90° and 160°. Because the exact figure matters, confirm the selected size and variant on the merchant page before ordering rather than relying on an old cached specification.
A practical rule
If a wide seating arc is mission-critical, lean toward a screen family known for broad off-axis viewing. If strong daylight rejection is the priority and seating is centered, Fresnel deserves a closer look.
Frequently asked questions
Is a wider viewing angle always better?
Not automatically. Wider viewing often comes with lower peak on-axis gain or different ambient-light behavior.
How can I test my room?
Sit in the farthest side seat and estimate the angle back to the center of the screen. Use that as a real-world constraint.
Why do specifications differ between sellers?
Different variants, measurement conventions, revisions and regional product pages can all create discrepancies. Confirm the exact model before purchase.
